March 3rd's Game
-
During the game (Level 3 of the Temple… Best Level Ever!), some conversation followed about balance so Kargin in his proto-Ancient display of burn the world, raised some questions about mechanics and charges, and lions, tigers, and bears … ohh my!
So here is an example of Kargin’s Shenanigans
10E Fireball [Maximized] Wand - Crafted in V’Ral, and the Elemental Forge, each charge prebuilt with a maximized Fireball. Details follow.
Energy #1 Elemental – Fire 1 Bursts of flame, fiery rays or simple ignition Manipulation #1 Blast – 20’r 2 explosion of energy which travels outward from center Strength Glowing 7 3d8 Feat Maximize Spell 3 Maximize spell variables min CL Level 15 Spell Level 8 Ok i realize this table is a bit wonky, but when you add up the energy, manipulation, and strength you get 10 which is a 5th level spell equivalent, then you add the Maximize Metamagic cost in +3 to it making it 8th level spell, now the min CL is 15 (Pink Cubes) - this is done this way to ensure forging in a metamagic affect into the base activation of a spell trigger item like a wand, rod, or staff is calculated into the Base cost thru the CL x SL x 750 equation as shown:
CL (15) x SL (8) x 750 = 90k Base Price
Basic Configuration:
Ok now [1 wand/1 charge] damage, with the caveat when Kargin picks up a Wand it works at his CL, normally it would work at the manufactured Wand CL:Kargin’s CL is 24 when using a Wand or Staff, so we will roll with that for this example.
CL(24) x Strength (24; 3d8 maximized) = 576 Fireball
Now Blastificer Wand configuration using/add the following:
1 Lens (Empower); Each Lens has 1 cube holding 10 charges
1 Amp (Twin); Each Amp has 1 cube holding 10 chargesAgain [1 wand/1 charge] but with the Blastificer Configuration:
CL(24) x Strength (24; 3d8 maximized) = 576 Fireball x 1.5 Lens (Empower - 50% boost) x 2 (Twin) = 1,728 Damage (1 wand charge, 1 lens charge, and 1 amp charge)
But lets not stop there, lets duel wield wands, for a normal standard action:
W(Primary Hand - 1 charge): Same as Blastificer configuration discussed before this, 1,728 damge
W(Off Hand - 2 charges): For the cost of an additional charge in the second off hand wand, also assumes same lens/amp config as primary hand - we now do an additional 1,728 damageBut Yes, we aren’t done…lets kick the tires on this thing, in the previous discussion we did a duel wield standard action, lets add a swift action into the mix for the same round.
Standard Action: W(Primary): 1,728 - W(Off Hand): 1,728 damage
Swift Action(using Artificer Metamagic Spell Trigger Class Ability and Quicken (+4)): 1,728 W(Primary), and 1,728(Off-Hand)Ok our damage is up to a meager 6,912 points of damage. I think we can do a smidge better here, repeating the same steps lets add energy admixture:
Standard Action w/ Energy Admixture, damage goes from 1,728 * 2 = 3,456:
W(Primary): 3,456 - W(Off Hand): 3,456 damage;
Swift Action(using Artificer Metamagic Spell Trigger Class Ability and Quicken (+4)): 3,456 W(Primary), and 3,456 W(Off-Hand)Grand Totaling: 13,824 damage.
Now lets look at the charges spent:
Standard Action - W(Primary) = +1 Wand Charge Activation, (Metamagic) +4 Admixture, +1 Amp Charge (Twin), and +1 Lens Charge(Empower)
Standard Action - W(Off Hand) = +2 Wand Charge Activation, (Metamagic) +4 Admixture, 1 Amp Charge (Twin), and 1 Lens Charge(Empower)Swift Action - W(Primary) = +1 Wand Charge Activation, (Metamagic) +4 Admixture, +4 Quicken, +1 Amp Charge (Twin), and +1 Lens Charge(Empower)
Swift Action - W(Off Hand) = +2 Wand Charge Activation, (Metamagic) +4 Admixture, +4 Quicken, +1 Amp Charge (Twin), and +1 Lens Charge(Empower)Ok so
Wand (Primary) : 14 charges, 2 Lens Charges, 2 Amp charges
Wand (Off Hand): 16 charges, 2 Lens Charges, 2 Amp ChargesNatural Next step from here:
The natural evolution from here would be to begin expanding beyond the standard and swift phases of a round, and work with spell trigger activations in place of attacks, ie. wand activations as ranged attacks thus Kargin would be able to make as many wand activations as you could normally make ranged attacks.
So for example a 20 artificer with has 3 attacks a round (that could be ranged), and you throw in rapid shot, and weapon mastery your looking at 5 ranged attacks per round or 5 clicks of that wand, throw in duel wielding … and look out!

@halfgiant Impossible … I know, I know, its a fantasy game … but come on "Level 3 of the Temple "
That’s just a little to far fetched for me to believe … If we are gonna get that crazy them my Character has an infinity amount hit points and poops solid gold and platinum.
-
Dregnoth and I didn’t believe it before, what was once thought possible in D&D to have a dungeon that goes past Level 2. Dregnoth claims to have seen stairs to level 4…but then again, he says a lot of strange things.

I was just surprised that cloud would drop something like the “Father of All Djinns” being held captive in level 3 - or where in hades Iuz captured such a being ! A’course, naively assuming the combination of Ancient and Alchemy wouldn’t figure out a way to breach his prison was doomed from the get-go
I do have to admit, tho - never dreamed J would reward us with a True Wish (tho he’d hinted about such with Erok and party). Pretty sure i saw him almost swallow his sake shotglass when i burned it without a moments notice and got us a few seconds access to the Armory of Power Items !
He won’t be walking off that dry-fucking anytime soon Rorik with his new Axe of Power was a given, Gruzie using the Club and Shield together to fashion a shovel brought a tear of worry to the GM’s eye - but i honestly dunno who he’s more concerned about, me with my shiny new Cloak of Power (and all of the deific butts i’m gonna drain of blood) or watching Kargin decompile and rebuild shiela’s staff into something befitting a ONE is gonna be epic itself !
Can’t wait to see what level 4 brings !!!
-
@dwarf Your story almost had me then you said level 4 … pssshhh ok sure to get to 4 there has to be a level 3 and we all know level 3 does not exist … has to be some homebrew dungeon map
-
@orc wuuuuut ?? we KNOW its level 4 because we could see the hardworking earth elementals installing handicap-accessible ramps on the stairs going down !! unbelievable !
-
-
don’t let his email fool ya - he’s avoiding the game tomorrow because he’s still grinding his gears about how to deal with The Penetrators owning various Power Items or mebbe me sneaking up on the clockmaker chick for a poke-and-tickle… that’s a valid concern
so instead he opted to sideline us with a quest to the Mightiest Temple in all the worlds, where we shall devour Wings of Hiroshima and down Mugs of Lightenbrau Coors whilst laughing and reminiscing about the days of Gary and Frank and Chaos Inc…
(( while secretly he’s using a stolen Psionic Screwdriver to whittle away at the memories of all concerned to plot his new diabolic paths-of-paramour to try and stop the ascension of the sainted GodKing of Lust from taking his throne upon the well-lit Moon of Posteriority for all time ))
he will fail, and there will be much merriment at his expense !
-
@dwarf uhh We have power items? I haven’t even posted the really nasty stuff yet. [Kargin stuffs his blueprints back in his bag, and waves off his nextgen prototype forge golem… to soon, back in the mansion]
-
wow, we don’t play for a month and you forget the Epic Glory of level 3 ??? damn absentminded giants - the rest of you SEE ?? this is what happens when ya let folks grow too tall when BEER KEGS are short ! gravity doesn’t let beer or any liquid flow uphill, so their brains all dry out
-
@dwarf Ohh the power level of epic glory otherwise known as Level 3. I was thrown off by Power Items, of course how could I forget that the stairs down lead to a door propped open by a Staff of the Archmagi, the chairs in the room were made of 35k year old manacite, and had a sculpted statue of a 10th dimensional being made of compacted sphere crystal, that looked suspiciously like Sorvani…but then again all dark elves look the same to us folk.
