So was chatting with the Dwarf yesterday and need the advice of some other DM’s

I am writing up a module and trying to figure out how to ad treasure types
      and monsters and encounters

how do you other DM’s go about it

I have been reading through old modules and getting a slight idea on it but would like some insight from those of you who have been playing for damn near ever

I pull it right out of my ass. Seriously.

Then again, I’ve never tried to actually write a full module. I write ideas and flow the game from there. That is a totally different design state though.

I went from running modules to sort of running modules and putting my own stuff in there, to simply going from ideas.

Because of that, I totally randomize the treasure. I have no idea where or when the players are going to go beyond a general sense.

In the current campaign, you all need to find a sphere of annihilation that is somewhere. With somewhere originally defined as within this 2 mile radius.

I have a hand drawn map of a tunnel leading to a big circle saying “beholder city”

Then I have another drawing of circles with notes like slums, outer city, inner city, and palace.

Then I have a more detailed (but not by much) drawing of the palace dome you all are in now.

I rarely throw specific treasure into the campaign because everyone wants “their” weapons and gear that they have in their head. So I throw random loot and cash, and make what you want available in V`Ral or let it be custom made.

But that is not something you can publish.

And yes, before @dwarf shits on me about lack of treasure… You been fighting guards… they don’t carry hoards in their belly…

It is also not my fault that there is a random Behayla on the loose, that is likely going to curtail any thoughts of finding the palace vault. I deny all responsibility for that.

Right on , so putting in like +4 weapon or armor of DM’s choosing could clear a lot of that issue up , then just fill out the rest of the treasures for gold and other misc magic items… depending how far I get on this beast I may run a little of it at the Cabin con if any body wants to take a short break from running their game …only if I get enough knocked out though
