Re: [Homebrew class](opinion please…)
No need for flack.
It’s why I posted this here, so I could get opinions from ppl or maybe even suggestions towards similar (but actually balanced classes) for me to look at.
This class I am talking about is a “rough draft” idea to base a character on.
There is alot of referance material that I have not seen that others have, so suggestions on where to look is greatly appreciated.

but if that is the reaction I am going to get from simply asking for opinions and opening a topic of discussion, then nevermind. I’ll stick with what I have and forget about asking for further input…

not pissed or angry at you, bud… just cranked off at the boneheads posting trash they claim is “balanced” when a blind man can see its not
-
and now that’cha got a real computer to use, have J set you up with a onecloud account so you can downslurp the 3e books from the companies i mentioned - believe me when i said there’s enuff GOOD material out there to choke a horse there’s also a library of dragon magazines and whatnot to mine thru for ideas…

The only reason I look through the Homebrew stuff is for Ideas for characters (either playable or NPC’s).
The Necromancer I have now had alot of way unbalanced homebrew spells that I started trying to balance right from the start (like the infamous Deathball).
Some of the classes are good ideas that just need varying amount of work balancing, and I have no problem doing that work.
There is also using them as a sort of skeleton with which to use legit materials to simulate in a more balanced fashion.
I like my necromancer, it’s just he is somewhat limited in what he can do without crossing the boundry of being an evil character.
Example being experiments to create more powerful undead minions to summon or use (such as a 4-armed Minotaur zombie created using necromancy and flesh crafting, actual legit feat btw though it may be called flesh shaping not sure).
Thats why I was interested in the Homebrew ‘Puppeteer’ class, cause it’s “Undead” would actually be more like constructs rather then true undead using negative energy.

Go back to basic a bit. What type of character do you like to play? There was an ass ton of d20 material produced.

There is so much material that we simply can’t. We need more to go on, hence my previous question.
Narrow down what you “want” to play
My campaign does not have many rules. About the only one that matters is non-Evil, which you smacked right into on your first try.

The last D&D campaign I was a player in, I went through a few characters.
One of them, I tried to recreate a Quincy from the anime Bleach. It was a process of working out what existed to let me realize this in a “by the book” 3.5 campaign.
That was actually the best character I had in that campaign. It was a Soulknife and then Soulbow. The Quincy attack style was simply artistic license on the soulbow’s psionic attacks.

I like the Necromancer idea of having quickly “summonable or creatable” minions to use as fodder, but still have some direct attack abilities in event minions are not a good option.
That’s why the Puppeteer caught my attention, it uses a more frankenstein approach to undead, using electricity rather then negative energy to animate the corpses.
It has more limited ability then a Necro considering it has no spell list, using spell-like class features. while also having direct attack abilities in it’s lightning attacks.
Now it’s “undead” are different then a necros in that 1) they are healed by electric energy rather then Neg-energy. 2) They gain no boost from Desecration or Unhallow areas or effects (no neg-energy in their creation to boost). 3) They are temporary, lasting a few turns to a few minutes max (outside of the Life Anew class feat) similar to a normal summoned creature.
Now the class does have balance issues, such as the seeming no limit cap to flesh golem creation or the Corpse creatures (via Life Anew ability) which is an easy fix, 1 golem max and 1 or 2 Corpse creatures max at a time.
It can be balanced with a little work.

I did and still toy with Idea of a Psionic based character that multi’s into the Pyromancer prestige class, which gives good mix of attack and support abilities.
If you have not noticed by now I tend to lean towards caster type characters, specially those that can provide a decent “at-will” attack spell or ability to use that does not rely on spell slots or spell/power points. Thats why the Puppeteer class and the Pyromancer prestige class caught my attention.
Like I said, for most part I like my Necro Onaga, I just do not wish to cross that “this is an act of Evil” line that is in place, so now I am hesitant to do anything further with him.
So I am trying to find alternative class types to take. I am not trying to cause a fuss, which is why I am bringing up these ideas here instead of springing them in-game and causing a WTF moment like Necromancer did in the first few sessions he was in with some of his spells and abilities.

The problem with minions is that they are quickly useless. To not be useless, they have to be overpowered. To be overpowered but balanced, they have to be short lived.
The easy way to think about it is how does this compare to a standard wizard dropping a fireball. Or a standard fighter attacking straight out.
Don’t compare to an optimized character like Rorek. You optimize after you find a base you like.
Look at the undead you could summon. What is the potential damage it can do in a round. Take into account the AC of the things that are being encountered. That basically makes it something that none of the opponents will even care about.
Then you also have the issue of well, if I do not use a minion, I need to attack somehow myself. But because you are trading powers to get minions, you cannot cast fireballs the same strength as the straight wizard.
Does this make sense?
I honestly do not know a minion controlling class that works.
Maybe @halfgiant or @dwarf do.Once you find something that can hold up, It can be balanced or energy converted to work like you want.

Nextcloud, and it does not contain everything yet. I need to clean up the storage.
@DarkWulf , you should have an account already. If you lost your credentials, let me know.

oh, and I correct my mistake, it’s not pyromancer, it’s pyrokineticist.
My bad.
