Prestige Classes
-
As previously discussed during game, here is an example.
Not sure if this qualifies as prestige or variant, but link to class below.
http://dnd.arkalseif.info/classes/maester/index.htmlThe Maester variant requires:
Skills: Craft (any) 8 ranks , Use Magic Device 4 ranks
Race: Gnome. (There are ways around this, but yes i know i’m not a gnome - lets put that aside for a moment)
Feats: Any two item creation feats.
Spells: Arcane caster level 5th.But all Kargin really wants is Maester level , for the Quick Crafting ability.
Minimum level 5 buy in, which is 10k, for a bonus feat, and quick crafting ability.

Yeah, I’m going to have to ponder things more on initial buy in cost.

How did the pondering go regarding prestige classes? Was some discussion about just treating them as any other multiclass option, or differently.

Well, I think this is settled, but only actually doing will cause things to be verified.
Detail in next post.

So Prestige Classes.
Prestige classes are simply (as if…) new classes but with a level modifier for the experience table.
If you look at the minimum requirements for a prestige class, typically feats, minimum caster level or BAB.
Take that minimum, and based on your existing classes you have levels in, that is the minimum level XP to start the class. Then you continue up from there. Unless you are the Avatar of Luuuuuuuuuuuvvvve… If you are, then it costs twice as much.
So If you are a fighter and the prestige class you want to take requires a BAB of +5 (level 5), plus other things (less than level 5), then the minimum XP cost to get a level 1 of the prestige class is the XP for level 5. Consider it a +4 level advancement mod in 3.5 terms.
If you are a cleric and it requires level 7 to get a BAB of 5 then consider it a +6 level advancement and it takes XP the same as level 7 to get level 1 of the prestige class.
If this doens’t make sense, post a speciofic example, and we can work through it.

@daermadm Prestige Class mechanic makes sense but lets not feed the beast (avatar of luv). If he or you rolls another 20 like last time with the Mother Beholder, against a Rust Tarrasque, then Kargin and Rorek are on the first multi-verse Obelisk portal out of the manaverse.
/ponders were the triplets are these days

Survivor
(Savage Species variant, p. 89)Those who survive a program of frequent assaults and other dangers emerge a few weeks later — tougher, faster, and less vulnerable to attacks.
Requirements
Base Save Bonus: Highest base save bonus must be lower than character level.Special: The path of the survivor requires a concentrated month of study to enter the prestige class. During this month, the character must stay in one place and spend all his waking hours in study, practice, and meditation.
A booming voice says
“What qualifies you Rorek for having survived frequent assaults and dangers only to emerge tougher, faster, and less vulnerable to attacks?”, Rorek thinks for a moment, and by that i mean takes a big long drink from his Jamas mug and responds with … “I’ve been thru Dregnoths Labratory more than once, and lived, does that count?”
