Dungeons & Dragons Announces Next “Evolution” of Game Coming in 2024
Dungeons & Dragons will receive a major rules update in 2024. Today, during the “Future of D&D Panel” at D&D Celebration, a panel of the D&D design team’s top figures announced that Wizards of the Coast was planning to release new versions of the core Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks in 2024 for the game’s 50th anniversary. When announcing the new products, panelists Jeremy Crawford, Chris Perkins, Liz Schuh, and Ray Winninger specifically did not refer to the books as the kickoff of a new “edition” of the game. In fact, they noted that the new core rulebooks would be backwards compatible with existing Fifth Edition books and were a “new evolution” of the game.

@daermadm “The Future of D&D panel also teased the release of two “classic” settings in 2022 and a third “classic” setting on the calendar for 2023.”
Since they have already done Forgotten Realms, and Ravenloft. I’m guessing they will reboot Greyhawk, DragonLance, and maybe Darksun. Given the snowflake and feelings now in D&D; Darksun probably won’t be selected. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Empire of Netherese setting emerge.

“Only three weeks after releasing Dungeons & Dragons Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, WotC has acknowledged a mistake and removed offensive content…”https://icv2.com/articles/news/view/52082/wizards-coast-removes-d-d-race-new-spelljammer-books

@dwarf said in So 5.5 coming in 2024?:
WotC has acknow
"The issue with the content arises from their backstory, as the Hadozee were kidnapped by a wizard who forcibly conducted experiments on them with the intent of selling them later for profit as soldiers.
Their backstory draws all sorts of comparisons to real historical events that involved forced experimentation on individuals against their will, such as the Tuskegee experiments as well as the horrors performed by Joseph Mengele at Birkenau. "
I think people are far too sensitive and preoccupied with their own brand of ‘me’ they can’t but help to think that everything relates to their own personal issues/struggles. Good thing they didn’t write about Alya’s forcibly and completely non-voluntary conducted experiments on pretty much everything and anyone simply for the pursuit of making the world more interesting.

just found a downslurp of the 5e Spelljammer book… the “terribly offensive” story is :
Several hundred years ago, a wizard visited Yazir, the hadozee home world, with a small fleet of spelljamming ships. Under the wizard’s direction, apprentices laid magic traps and captured dozens of hadozees. The wizard fed the captives an experimental elixir that enlarged them and turned them into sapient, bipedal beings. The elixir had the side effect of intensifying the hadozees’ panic response, making them more resilient when harmed. The wizard’s plan was to create an army of enhanced hadozee warriors for sale to the highest bidder. But instead, the wizard’s apprentices grew fond of the hadozees and helped them escape. The apprentices and the hadozees were forced to kill the wizard, after which they fled, taking with them all remaining vials of the wizard’s experimental elixir.
With the help of their liberators, the hadozees returned to their home world and used the elixir to create more of their kind. In time, all hadozee newborns came to possess the traits of the enhanced hadozees. Then, centuries ago, hadozees took to the stars, leaving Yazir’s fearsome predators behind.which, to ME sounds like the author was either thinking about the flying attack monkeys in 1939’s Wizard of Oz or something akin to 1968’s Planet of the Apes.
OMG OMG RACIST RACISM !! NOW I’M BUTTHURT AND WotC NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WITH ATONEMENT !
