Existing character level conversion
-
Official Character conversion methodology.
You will convert your character directly to 3.5 as a 13th level character with 78,000xp.
If you wish to multi-class, your second and/or third class will start at 5th level with 10,000xp.
If you wish, you may drop your primary class by up to 3 levels and use the XP difference towards your other class(es).
- If you drop to 12th, you gain 12,000xp to add to your other class(es).
- Example: you could be a 12 fighter / 7 wizard
- Example: you could be a 12 fighter / 6 wizard / 6 thief
- If you drop to 11th, you gain 23,000xp to add to your other class(es).
- Example: you could be an 11 fighter / 9 wizard
- Example: you could be an 11 fighter / 7 wizard / 7 thief
- If you drop to 10th, you gain 33,000xp to add to your other class(es).
- Example: you could be a 10 fighter / 9 wizard (barely shy of 10 wizard)
- Example: you could be a 10 fighter / 8 wizard / 7 thief
You all can do math.
- If you drop to 12th, you gain 12,000xp to add to your other class(es).

@halfgiant said in 5e to 3.5 Conversion:
So in 5e game i have ~111,800 exp, in 3.5 conversion i would like to go cleric/artificer. If i distribute my exp by 3.5 tables a 12th level character is 66k, and a 11th level character is 55k, I would like to duel class to a (almost) 12(cleric)/11(artificer). I can post the artificer class specifics a little later. Are you ok with that? or do you wish a direct 12th for 12th port over.
Alright, this is a hard one because had we started this as a 3.5e campaign, you would have likely started as a 5/5 and leveled appropriately.
Anyone in the campaign that chose to stay single class would be levels ahead of you.
But I also do not really want to walk you backwards level wise.
I am mulling this still.
Feedback from others is welcome.
All players will start at the minimum XP for their level.
Your level will translate straight over. Assuming you will be 13, you will have 78,000xp in 3.5e.
I will let you start a second class at 5th level the same as we started the campaign in the first place.
If you choose to remain 12th level then you can take the XP difference and apply it to the second class.
So 12th level is 66,000 diff 12,000
Or 11th level is 55,000 diff 23,000So if you stay 12 you will have to 10,000 (5th level) + 12,000 bringing you to 22,000. This makes you just over 7th in the muilticlass. So a 12/7
Rolling yourself back to 11th would let the second class have 10,000 + 23,000 for a total of 33,000. This makes you nearly 9th (3,000 short) in the multi class. Thus an 11/8 and almost an 11/9.
Anyone that stays single class will get a 10,000XP bonus.

Assuming the above goes through more or less intact after discussion, all players will have an equivalent amount of “Phantom XP”
For those who were not part of the prior campaign, this is a mechanic I implemented to handle the XP costs of magic item creation. I never liked the idea of losing XP just to make items., but I did like the idea of some kind of cost as a limiter to item creation. Hence the Phantom XP. Whenever XP was awarded, you also earned half that amount in Phantom XP that could only be be used to pay XP costs for spellcasting and Item creation.
Later on we also introduced the concept of the Feat Master class/prestige class. I was back and forth on how to use XP for that. At one point Phantom XP was allowed to be used to level it, and at one point it was normal XP.

Don’t be the guy that makes your new character a 13/5/5/5/5/5/5/5/5 in every other class. I will just kill your character and tell you to fuck off.
