By this time the party was entering the foothills of a large mountain range that could be seen far to the south.
The party continued tracking the salamanders to the south and encountered and defeated a group of 3 salamanders around midmorning.

Following the fresher trail, the party found a large river slicing through a large ravine just after mid-day. Inspecting the ravine, they found a two cave entrances on the far side. Zook tried to sneak closer, but ended up having to walk almost 1,000 feet ahead of the party in order to hear anything besides the party.
