      @dwarf said in The Ancient - Epic Prestige Class: Ignore Level Limits: When an Ancient picks up a magic item that’s spell affect uses the Ancient level, not the level limit imposed on the magic item. now here’s where things get a smidge hairy… see, magic items are created around a base core item - then modified to hold a magical “charge” or effect. when built correctly, you wind up with a wand/weapon/ring/whatever thats balanced to exude said effect for a limited time. when you try to FORCE more magic thru that item, bad things often happen. kinda like trying to push a .50 cal into a .22 rifle - or a cannon ball outta a bb gun. she just ain’t made to handle that kind of charge. an epic level item, sure - they’re overbuilt to unleash great honking swathes of magic… so they’ll hold together without complaint but non-epic items ? you could probably (ie safely) push about twice the level of spell thru one (so a 12 dice fireball outta a 6-dice wand, for example) but i don’t know much further you’d go before KABOOM happens… (i reposted the End of the Powermaster story that talked about when Daren tried it) 3.5 Pre-Epic staffs are able to do this, admittedly wands do not, at least not without a lot of feat twiddling. Didn’t seem like it would be a big stretch for a Ancient to do it. Under Staff Descriptions - https://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/staffs.htm Staffs use the wielder’s ability score and relevant feats to set the DC for saves against their spells. Unlike with other sorts of magic items, the wielder can use his caster level when activating the power of a staff if it’s higher than the caster level of the staff.

Magical Gems and Gear Socketing v1.1.pdf That is actually not a horrible system. So much of 5e is so close to something I would like to play more.

      Skill Reference Details for Kargin (because his player keeps forgetting) Taking 10 When your character is not being threatened or distracted, you may choose to take 10. Instead of rolling 1d20 for the skill check, calculate your result as if you had rolled a 10. For many routine tasks, taking 10 makes them automatically successful. Distractions or threats (such as combat) make it impossible for a character to take 10. In most cases, taking 10 is purely a safety measure —you know (or expect) that an average roll will succeed but fear that a poor roll might fail, so you elect to settle for the average roll (a 10). Taking 10 is especially useful in situations where a particularly high roll wouldn’t help. Skill Mastery: At 13th level, an artificer can take 10 when making a Spellcraft or Use Magic Device check, even if stress and distractions would normally prevent him from doing so. This ability circumvents the normal rule that a character may not take 10 on a Use Magic Device check.

      For future reference, the spire was crystalline star metal. Exact properties are yet undefined. DM leanings are that it is manacite that is formed in a star and has properties that make it conducive to spelljamming. Mostly used in spelljamming helms.

      you’d fire off an email letting the CHURCH know you were coming across… and then follow-up emails as you get established. its more of a courtesy than anything else, and wouldn’t need V’s direct attention business may be transacted ANYWHERE in the sphere, and a tithe % is forwarded to the church for each net positive transaction over the 3% “base mandatory profit” percentage, which is only EVER waived if you’re providing assets to fellow adventurers in your party or other Rolandites/Protectors. this “base +3%” rule is even applied when dealing with charities. a Rolandite may offer items at or below COST to other rolandites or their fellow party members, but thats assumed to be extenuating circumstances (ie you don’t hafta whack someone for profit if they’ve just been murdered-in-a-dungeon kinda thing) you’ll be able to request a list of prospective shop locations, based on whatever product you’ll primarily be moving. with the coming of the grey/black robed Daughters, this can get “shady” - but those options only get shown to Daughters of high enough rank/level and/or wearing robes of those colors (ie Bishops and above can see more and more of what the grey/dark church is transacting, as they rise in level) you’d receive the gratuitous blessings, nods and handshakes and told “Go make us all rich, and try not to get killed !”

      Eyes of the Oracle (Dragon Magic) Divination Level: Cleric 6, Sorcerer 6, Wizard 6, Wu Jen 6 (all), Components: V, S, M, Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Personal Target: You Duration: 1 round/level or until expended Vague, translucent shadows of your body’s form move just out of sync with your own motions, a visible sign that you exist in two places in time. You can see into the future, slightly anticipating your opponents’ next moves. You gain a +2 insight bonus to Armor Class and a +2 insight bonus on Reflex saves. Additionally, at the end of your turn, you can ready a single standard action regardless of the number of actions taken this turn. Thus, you can move at your movement rate, make a single attack, and then at the end of your turn ready an action to cast a single spell with a casting time of one standard action. This behaves as a readied action in all other ways, including the change in your initiative. If you take the readied action, the spell’s effect ends immediately. Special: If you are of the dragonblood subtype (see page 4), your bonus to Armor Class and on Reflex saves improves to +3.
