For future reference, the spire was crystalline star metal. Exact properties are yet undefined. DM leanings are that it is manacite that is formed in a star and has properties that make it conducive to spelljamming. Mostly used in spelljamming helms.

i think it’d be like trying to start a campfire under water… or breathe in outer space. there’s no magic there to WORK with, so you’d essentially be crafting an empty item. the dead magic doesn’t SEEP into your spellbook when you walk thru a DMZ, nor does it inundate your manapool every time you breathe inside one. its just an absence of magic - some place where the Weave fibers got burned away… what kind of juju are you trying to build, might be the better question ?

shield spheres were created by the technodwarves, so you’d have to be either cybernetic or a technomage to even TRY unravelling how one worked. PCF’s were a low-cost, low-power variant of the standard cube-of-force found in the 2e DMG that were tuned SPECIFICALLY just to mask out incoming damage instead of gases/magic/all living things, etc. in 2e, they retailed for approximately half the cost of a normal cube, so in 3e that’s probably a safe assumption too. level requirements wouldn’t be affected from the standard cube, as it takes a little more specific knowledge but less overall to make one. the 3e standard DMG cube gives it a 10th lvl crafter requirement, which i believe reflects the ability to cast 5th lvl Wall of Force. Mana Potions, believe it or not, are actually on the ORIGINAL document of Ancient Items i scribbled out (called, at the time, simply Potion of Magic) in my moment of madness down in mom’s basement. Jared was there, at the time. Jared ran away While they were considered ancient items at the time, i doubt i’d classify them as such now. In the mess, they’re considered Uncommon - and you’d find one about a tenth as often as you’d find healing potions. cost-wise, they’re about 4x-5x the cost of healing potions (of whatever caliber you’re imbibing) in most markets.

constructs… are a “phase” that all wizards and crafters go through. they get this idea that building an automaton will somehow save them time and money - channeling a great deal of both into crafting one or more. then adventurers happen - and they learn first-hand how EXPENSIVE constructs really are, when repair costs start rolling in. then they either bankrupt themselves playing Magic Repair Mechanic or figure out that peons are cheaper and more easily replaceable in the short and long term. eventually, they wind up relegating the construct to either boring guard duty over unneeded and long-forgotten assets (like an unpaid and unsleeping security guard over your rental storage unit) or giving it one task and then sneaking away to make it someone elses future problem so yeah - most ancients either don’t bother or just make “one-shot” constructs to do one specific task over and over again. “You, dig out rocks. You put rocks in wheelie cart. You move wheelie cart outside. You empty wheelie cart.” rinse and repeat. once in a blue pube, someone will get the bright idea to make an INTELLIGENT construct, then wind up having to deal with free will on top of everything else you already have to pay for. “Whaddya mean you want a vacation ?? Motherfucker i BUILT you !! Get back to work !” goes about as well as giving free will to humans did . . . go figure

someone just posted this over in Jen Page’s FB group thought it’d give you guys a grin for Friday ! https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDGreentext/comments/96wjnw/insomnia_adventures/ Insomnia Adventures Be me, sleep deprived DM, half an hour ago Get startled by phone ringing It’s one of my players Me: “Dude, it’s midnight, you good?” Friend: “Yeah yeah, sorry if I woke you. Could I ask for a favor?” OhGodHeKilledSomeone.gif Me: “Uh, sure? Shoot.” Friend: “My daughter can’t sleep, could you tell a quick story over speakerphone? She loves listening to the recordings of our sessions before bed, but I left my laptop at the office so I can’t play them.” NaniTheFuck.mp3 Me: “She listens to us to fall asleep?” Friend: “Yeah, but she really likes your plot and NPC acting bits. She calls you ‘dumb dumb mister.’ Guess Dungeon Master is a bit hard for a preschooler.” Me: “Wow…well, if it will help her sleep, then sure.” Friend: “Thank you! Okay, give me a sec to head back to her room.” (pause) “Okay, you’re on speaker.” Me: “Hey, [daughters name], it’s uncle Anon.” Daughter: (Happy gasp) “Dumb dumb Mister!” I’veNeverBeenHappierToBeCalledADumbDumb.jpg Me: “You ready for a story about…(DM IMPROV SKILLS ENGAGE)…the time your daddy and his friends went deep into a cursed temple to save a frost dragon egg?” Daughter: (Incomprehensible happy squealing noises) I then proceed to spend nearly 20 min spitballing a story over the phone for the most fascinated little girl until she eventually fell asleep. Friend thanks me for the help and says he’ll see me on game night. Lay down in bed, actually feel content and comfortable for once. I should have thanked him. I am the dumb dumb mister.

Know the feeling, when i’m in the shop thinking about screwing whatever verse i happen to be in, somehow the song “i’ve got the power” hits the playlist, so i can sympathize. Even just last week, my 5e dragon sorcerer was bending a shadow demon over the alter and that song came on - gave me a chuckle of course nobody had the context.

Ok, most of that is pretty much shit when compared to the 10e fighter table, but the gems of ideas are all there to be reworked.

on the topic of a paladin of Roland, that is a good point that the dwarves kinda fill the militant role. A Paladin is still a valid option I think. Also something that I think Roland would enjoy having a couple of, but likely not more than that. More like a “huh, I wonder how that would play out?” question.

Spell Duo-Dimensional Weapon Psychoportation Level : Psion 4 / PsyWar 4 Display : Vi Manifestation Time : 1 action Range : Personal Target : One of your held weapons Duration : 2 rounds/level Power points : 7 Your weapon’s edge becomes two-dimensional, making it infinitely razor-sharp. Almost any hand-held weapon can be altered with this power, even bludgeoning weapons such as hammers or maces. Only jointed, chain, or rope weapons (such as whips, flails, or nunchuks) cannot be made into dimensional blades. However, bludgeoning weapons will do slashing or piercing damage (damage dice as normal). In addition, the critical threat range is increased to 17-20; however the damage multiplier remains that of the weapon. This power’s effect can be used to breach stoneskin spells and Kinetic Barriers. While this power is in effect, the psionicist’s weapon ignores any armor worn by the victim - only Dexterity and magical protection applies. In the case of monsters, the DM must decide if the creature’s Armor Class is due to thick, armor-like hide or natural quickness. The dimension blade can also be used to cleanly sever inanimate objects, such as an opponent’s weapon, a stone pillar, or the axle of a wagon. Any object struck by a dimension blade must make a fortitude saving throw or be sliced in half. Feat Improved Critical ( Player’s Handbook v.3.5, p. 95) [Fighter Bonus Feat, General] Choose one type of weapon, such as longsword or greataxe. With that weapon, you know how to hit where it hurts. Prerequisite base attack bonus +8, Proficient with weapon, Benefit When using the weapon you selected, your threat range is doubled. For example, a longsword usually threatens a critical hit on a roll of 19-20 (two numbers). If a character using a longsword has Improved Critical (longsword), the threat range becomes 17-20 (four numbers). Special You can gain Improved Critical multiple times. The effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of weapon. This effect doesn’t stack with any other effect that expands the threat range of a weapon (such as the keen edge spell). A fighter may select Improved Critical as one of his fighter bonus feats (see page 38). Weapon Enhancement Keen Enhancement (Dungeon Master’s Guide v.3.5, p. 225) Price: +1 bonus Property: Weapon Caster Level: 10th Aura: Moderate; Transmutation Activation: — This ability doubles the threat range of weapon. For instance, if it is placed on longsword (which has a normal threat range of 19-20) the keen longsword scores a threat on a 17-20. Only piercing or slashing weapons can be keen. (If you roll this property randomly for an inappropriate weapon, reroll.) This benefit doesn’t stack with any other effect that expands the threat range of a weapon (such as the keen edge spell or the Improved Critical feat). Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor , Keen Edge .
